US President Donald Trump is seeking a Trump Kim Jong Un meeting in 2026, with discussions reportedly focused on holding face-to-face talks with the North Korean leader this autumn. According to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal, Trump has spoken with his advisers about arranging the meeting during his next trip to Asia. The Times of Russia reports that no official preparations for the meeting are currently underway.

Trump Kim Jong Un Meeting in 2026 Could Take Place During Asia Trip

Trump has discussed with his advisers the possibility of meeting Kim Jong Un during his upcoming Asia trip, according to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal.

The US president could travel to Asia in November to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Shenzhen, China, the newspaper reported. However, there is currently no official planning underway for a Trump Kim Jong Un meeting in 2026.

Trump reportedly sees talks with Kim Jong Un as a chance to restart dialogue and try to persuade North Korea to give up its nuclear program. However, experts and several US officials do not expect the discussions to produce significant progress.

A White House source said that a meeting between Trump and Kim Jong Un would take place at the appropriate time.

Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un Talks

The US president had also sought to meet the North Korean leader during his 2025 Asia tour, according to The Wall Street Journal.

At that time, Pyongyang indicated that it was open to talks with Washington. However, the two sides were unable to resolve logistical issues within the limited timeframe, the newspaper reported, citing US officials.

On August 17, Trump said that Kim Jong Un had responded to the proposal for talks. Trump also said that he believed a mutual understanding had been established between the two leaders.

Trump and Kim Jong Un Have Met Three Times

Trump and Kim Jong Un have already held three meetings during Trump’s first presidential term.

Their first meeting took place in the summer of 2018, followed by two more meetings in the winter and summer of 2019.

A new Trump Kim Jong Un meeting in 2026 could provide another opportunity for Washington and Pyongyang to resume direct dialogue. However, the timing and outcome of any potential meeting remain uncertain, as no formal arrangements have yet been announced.
