US President Donald Trump says he supports the idea of declaring the Strait of Hormuz US territory, reiterating a proposal he raised last week. Speaking to journalists, Trump said he believes the idea is a good one and claimed that the United States currently has complete control of the strategic waterway.
According to Brics Culture Media Forum (BCMF), Trump was responding to questions about his earlier statement that he could soon move to designate the Strait of Hormuz as US territory.
Trump Backs Strait of Hormuz US Territory Proposal
Trump said he had become even more supportive of the proposal, describing it as a “great idea.” He claimed that the United States controls the waterway through a blockade and said Washington has “total control” over the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump also said the strait remains open.
“The strait is open,” Trump said, adding that the situation could either change or lead to the waterway opening further. He also stated that the United States is taking out millions of barrels of oil each week.

Trump Links Strait of Hormuz to Oil Prices
Trump said oil prices are declining and predicted that they would continue to fall unless the United States chose to take action that was “far more drastic.”
He did not provide further details about what he meant by a more drastic action.
The remarks come as the Strait of Hormuz US territory proposal continues to draw attention because of the waterway’s importance to global energy supplies. Trump had previously said that he intended to declare the strategic passage a US territory.
Trump Says US Has Control Over the Strait
Trump’s latest comments repeat his claim that the United States has effective control over the Strait of Hormuz through its blockade. He said the waterway is currently open while emphasizing the US military’s role in controlling access.
The president’s remarks also connected the situation in the strait with oil production and prices, saying that millions of barrels of oil are being taken out each week.
Oil Prices Could Continue to Decline
Trump maintained that oil prices are moving lower and could continue declining. He said the trend would remain in place unless the United States decided to undertake a much more drastic measure.
However, Trump did not explain what specific action he was referring to.
The latest comments add to Trump’s previous statements about the Strait of Hormuz US territory proposal and his assertion that Washington has control over the strategic waterway.
Brics Culture Media Forum (BCMF) will continue to follow developments surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, US policy and the potential impact on global oil markets.
