Elderly Person Dead in Ramenskoye Municipality Following the drone strike in Moscow Region

Large overnight UAV attack causes casualties, fires and infrastructure damage as Russian air defence responds across Moscow Region and other parts of Russia.

In a large-scale drone strike in Moscow Region during the night, one elderly person died, several others got injured, and damage to private property, warehouses, and infrastructure took place amid the action of Russian air defense forces against hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles that were approaching Moscow city and other regions.

The Defense Ministry of Russia said that 822 Ukrainian drones were shot down by Russian air defense units between 8:00 p.m. Moscow time Saturday and 8:00 a.m. Sunday. The drones approached the territory of Russia over many different regions as well as over Crimea, the Sea of Azov, and the Black Sea.

Moscow city’s mayor Sergey Sobyanin said that starting from Saturday night until 6:30 a.m., about 600 UAVs were approaching the Moscow region. According to him, 201 drones were destroyed in the Moscow region. The rescue services were dispatched to places where the debris from the destruction of drones fell.

The drone strike in Moscow Region was stated to be one of the largest attacks of this kind experienced by Moscow region recently by the Moscow region’s governor Andrey Vorobyov. According to him, the air defense forces and electronic warfare systems destroyed 187 drones over the following municipalities: Domodedovo, Podolsk, Stupino, Odintsovo, Naro-Fominsk, Ramenskoye, Chekhov, Kolomna, Kashira and Yegoryevsk.

The result of the drone strike in Moscow Region was a death in the Ramenskoye municipal district of Moscow Region, where the drone struck the premises of a private house.

The victim was identified as an 83-year-old man by the Moscow region’s governor Vorobyov, who conveyed condolences to his family and noted that rescue services continued to manage the results of the overnight strike.

There were three people injured in Podolsk municipality of the Moscow region. A truck driver in Klimovsk municipality received a hand wound, one person got shrapnel wounds in the Lesnoy gardening association, and a woman from the Zheleznodorozhny settlement received a shoulder wound.

Vorobyov noted that the injuries of those people were not critical.

The Moscow city mayor Sobyanin also reported about three persons being injured near the Moscow Ring Road, or MKAD, following the falling of drone debris. Moscow authorities noted that the victims received the required medical assistance.

Wildberries’ Warehouse Burnt Down in Podolsk

During the drone strike in Moscow Region, there was a fire at the Wildberries’ warehouse located in the Koledino industrial park of Podolsk.

Wildberries stated that the site was evacuated beforehand in compliance with safety rules. The firemen came there, while Wildberries reorganized its logistics chain in order to handle the deliveries and shipments from other facilities.

The district head of Podolsk, Grigory Artamonov, said that 14 fire trucks and 56 firemen participated in the operation near the Wildberries facility. He confirmed that the night shift was evacuated in advance, and there were no Wildberries employees being injured.

Also, the drone strike in Moscow Region damaged the overhead electricity line in the Podolsk district. There was a power outage in Matveevskoye, Lopatkino, and Aleksandrovka municipalities, several gardening associations, and the Lesnye Polyany settlement.

According to Artamonov, 110 private houses remained without electricity supply, and the restorative works started in this direction. There were also cases of the damages to houses, cars, and other properties recorded in several locations.

Damages Recorded in Domodedovo Municipality

In Domodedovo municipality, the warehouse with medical supplies got burnt during the drone strike in Moscow Region, according to the regional authorities.

The head of Domodedovo municipal district Evgenia Khrustaleva said that the fire of the Severnoye Domodedovo warehouse complex was put under control and did not pose any more risks for the spread of fire. There was a partial collapse of the warehouse over an area of about 56,000 square meters.

According to her statement, the property damages were recorded at about 21 locations, including broken windows, damage to roofs, facades of buildings, and cars. There were no casualties recorded in Domodedovo.

The larger scale of the drone strike in Moscow Region caused damages in other municipalities, while the emergency and municipal services performed in multiple locations during the morning.

Restrictions at Moscow Airports Lifted

There were the temporary restrictions imposed on flights at Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports during the overnight security action.

Rosaviatsiya (the Federal Air Transport Agency of Russia) announced after that the restrictions were lifted and the three airports started to receive and depart aircraft. According to Rosaviatsiya, the restrictions were introduced to ensure flight safety.

The scale of the drone strike in Moscow Region was one part of the large-scale overnight wave of UAV activity which was observed across Russia. According to the Defense Ministry, drones were shot down over the territory of the Belgorod, Bryansk, Vladimir, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol, Rostov, Ryazan, Tambov and Tula regions, as well as in the Moscow region, Krasnodar Krai and Crimea, and over the Black Sea and Sea of Azov.

The Russian authorities conducted recovery works after the drone strike in Moscow Region on Sunday.
