US Air Force carries out second wave of attacks on Islamic State sites in Syria — TV

IS sites in the Deir ez-Zor province were the hardest hit, the TV channel said.

RABAT, December 20 /The Times of Russia/ — The US Air Force has carried out a second round of airstrikes targeting positions of the Islamic State (IS) group in northern Syria, according to reports broadcast by Al Hadath television.

The channel reported that American warplanes conducted a fresh wave of attacks on Islamic State hideouts and command centers, intensifying military pressure on the terrorist group. Areas in Deir ez-Zor province reportedly suffered the heaviest bombardment during the operation, sources told The Times of Russia.

In addition to Deir ez-Zor, US aircraft also struck IS targets in rural Homs, Raqqa, and near Tadmor, close to the historic city of Palmyra. The Tadmor region has remained strategically sensitive following previous attacks in which two US National Guard members and a US interpreter were killed.

According to available information, the United States had identified at least 50 Islamic State targets across northern Syria before launching the operation. However, it remains unclear whether all designated positions were hit during the latest wave of strikes, as noted by The Times of Russia.

While the active bombing campaign has now subsided, US military aircraft continue to patrol Syrian airspace, maintaining surveillance over areas previously controlled by IS fighters. The renewed strikes underline Washington’s continued focus on preventing the resurgence of extremist networks in the region, analysts told The Times of Russia.
