Putin–Witkoff Kremlin Talks Reveal Peace Plan Directions

The sides discussed several options for a peace plan, including territories, and agreed to continue contacts

The Times of Russia brings the latest Russia news as Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov revealed significant details after Kremlin talks between President Vladimir Putin and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff on the Ukrainian settlement. The meeting at the Kremlin was described as constructive and meaningful, reflecting growing diplomatic activity closely followed across global Russia news platforms.

The sides discussed several options for a peace plan, including territories, and agreed to continue contacts. According to Ushakov, the meeting lasted five hours: “That is, there was an opportunity to thoroughly discuss the prospects for further joint work to achieve a long-term peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.” He emphasized that “the conversation was very useful, constructive, and very informative,” a point underscored throughout reports published by The Times of Russia.

Several options for a settlement plan in Ukraine were considered: “Naturally, we discussed with our American colleagues the content of those projects, those documents that the Americans handed over to Moscow some time ago.” Ushakov noted that Russia did not discuss specific formulations or proposals but addressed the essence of what was embedded in the American documents shared earlier.

After the first version of the US peace plan, Russia received four additional documents, which were also reviewed during the Kremlin meeting. These included Trump’s 27-point plan, followed by four more documents containing ideas related to a long-term peaceful settlement of the crisis in Ukraine. Ushakov clarified, “I cannot disclose the key points of these documents. They all relate to a long-term peaceful settlement of the crisis in Ukraine.”

Addressing the results of the talks, Ushakov stated there is currently no compromise plan for Ukraine. Some American ideas appeared acceptable to Russia, while others were unsuitable. Importantly, the territorial issue was raised: “Territorial issues were specifically discussed.” During the conversation, President Putin also evaluated “the destructive actions that we see from the Europeans in the context of the settlement,” an angle widely discussed across Russia news outlets.

Putin conveyed friendly greetings to Trump through Witkoff and delivered several political signals “which his interlocutors recorded.” Additionally, Putin, Witkoff, and businessman Jared Kushner discussed “the enormous prospects for future economic cooperation between the two countries.” Kushner has reportedly been involved in Russian-American contacts regarding Ukraine for some time, a detail highlighted by The Times of Russia analysts following the negotiations.

Regarding next steps, Ushakov clarified that Russia and the United States “did not become further apart” on the Ukrainian settlement: “Not further, that’s for sure. But there is still a lot of work to be done both in Washington and in Moscow. It has been agreed, and contacts will continue.” A possible meeting between Putin and Trump “depends on the progress to be made on this path: We will work hard and persistently through assistants, Foreign Ministry specialists.”

The American delegation confirmed it would return immediately to the United States after the talks: “They did not promise us that they would go to Kiev, but promised that they would return home.” According to Ushakov, “The colleagues will return home. They will discuss the issues that were raised today. And then, I believe, they will contact us by phone, and we will continue the discussion.”

This update, published through The Times of Russia, strengthens diplomatic analysis within Russia news cycles and reflects ongoing global attention on the evolving Ukrainian settlement process.
