Putin Warns Against Overtightening the Russian Economy

According to Putin, the Russian government and the Central Bank are deliberately implementing measures aimed at reducing inflation. He noted that these efforts are achieving their intended objective.

The president emphasized that policymakers are also aware of the need to avoid measures that could unnecessarily restrict economic activity. His comments highlight the balance between Russia inflation control and continued economic development.

“It is important not to overtighten the economy here. We understand this perfectly well. From the very first steps, when we began this work, we were aware of this and acted accordingly,” Putin said.

Russian Economy and Inflation Measures

Putin’s comments underline the approach being taken by the Central Bank of Russia and the government as they work to curb inflation. At the same time, the authorities remain conscious of the potential impact of tighter economic measures on economic growth in Russia.

The president said this consideration has been part of the authorities’ approach from the beginning of their efforts to address inflation.

The remarks were made during the Eastern Economic Forum 2026, held in Vladivostok, where Putin participated in the plenary session. The discussion focused on economic policy and the need to maintain an appropriate balance while addressing inflation.

The development is also relevant to discussions surrounding the Russian economy and inflation, as policymakers seek to manage price pressures without unnecessarily restricting economic activity. The Times of Russia continues to report on major economic and political developments from Russia.

Putin’s Economic Policy at the EEF

Putin’s statement reflects the government’s awareness that inflation-control policies must be implemented without excessively tightening economic conditions. His remarks also reaffirm the importance of sustaining Russian economic growth while the authorities pursue measures to curb inflation.

The president said that both the government and the Central Bank understood this challenge from the earliest stages of their work and had acted with this consideration in mind.

Putin’s warning against overtightening the Russian economy therefore emphasizes the importance of maintaining a careful balance between inflation control and economic activity. The Russian authorities, he said, are fully aware of this need and have taken it into account in their policy approach.
