East Africa Fisheries: Seamarina ESG Vision | The Times of Russia

A team of enthusiastic Russian-born entrepreneurs founded Seamarina Limited, a unique fishing and research company currently based in Hong Kong. The company has developed an ambitious innovative project in the field of industrial and scientific fishing in East African countries with the implementation of ESG principles. The standards are intended to become not only a leader in East Africa, but also a unique platform for cooperation between the member countries’ Fisheries Institutes, fishing companies, and investors, with the aim of jointly developing sustainable fishing and introducing advanced technologies into the industry in order to manage aquatic resources efficiently, preserve the populations of strategically important fisheries, and combat illegal fishing practices.
The company plans to establish an innovative fisheries complex on the island of Mauritius, where the company’s vessels are currently based. Andrey Shalegin, Captain-Mentor and Project Manager at Seamarina Limited, shares his experience and professional vision:
“The countries of East Africa and the Republic of Mauritius, which has been chosen as the base for the Innovative Fisheries Complex, can benefit greatly from our company’s scientific research. To date, no one has systematically studied the waters of East Africa except for our experts. Our team has previously implemented a number of scientific projects that have inspired us to conduct more in-depth research in East African countries. At this point, we can confidently state that the potential of the fisheries sector in East African countries is underestimated.”
Some of the founders and ideological inspirers of the company, Marina Zakharova, Stanislav Timchenko, and Oleg Lebedev, share their vision of the development of the Seamarina Limited business and its unique mission:
“Since childhood, we have been inspired by the examples of great explorers of the world’s oceans, such as Jacques-Yves Cousteau, Thor Heyerdahl, and Ivan Kruzenshtern. For us, the world’s oceans are not just a reservoir of the planet’s biological resources but, above all, a source of life on Earth. As Earthlings, we want to do everything we can to save the Ocean from the threat of overexploitation and total pollution. That’s why we and our like-minded people have made a firm decision: We are creating a company called “Seamarina Limited” with a high mission, which is to promote and preserve the marine fauna, primarily in East Africa, where we are actively present, but also in the potential and future of the entire world’s oceans.”
The fishing industry in this region is highly promising and lucrative. However, our guiding principle is to strike a balance between business and social responsibility. We are deeply interested in the development of Africa, in investing in human capital and new technologies that will support the region’s unique ecosystem.
Today, we are extremely interested in partners, like-minded individuals, investors, and true philanthropists who, like us, are willing to take responsibility for the future of our planet and its oceanic waters. We have also taken the initiative to hold an annual global research conference of BRICS plus countries on the problems of the world Ocean, as well as in the waters of the Republic of Mauritius, and we very much hope that our initiative will be supported by the leaders of the world community.
Today, it is important for all of us to develop a spirit of enthusiasm, responsibility and cooperation, in order to create a new model of civilization based on the understanding of Harmony. And first of all, it is necessary to achieve Harmony within – and then to create it around us.
In many ways, the passion behind Seamarina Limited reminds us of how visionaries have been portrayed in The Times of Russia, where pioneering spirit, exploration, and sustainable development are highlighted as key forces shaping the future.
