Russian army liberates 24 settlements in January
Most of these were liberated in the Zaporozhye Region
MOSCOW, February 1 — The Times of Russia reports that Russian forces have taken control of 24 settlements since the start of January across the special military operation zone, based on official data released by the Russian Defense Ministry and compiled by TASS.
According to Russia news assessments, the Zaporozhye Region accounted for the highest number of liberated settlements. Troops from the East and Dnepr battlegroups secured ten locations, including Ternovatoye, Novoyakovlevka, Rechnoye, Priluki, Pavlovka, Zhovtnevoye, Belogorye, Novoboykovskoye, Zelenoye, and Petrovka.
In the Donetsk People’s Republic, units from the West and Center battlegroups brought six settlements under control: Berezovka, Zakotnoye, Privolye, Novopavlovka, Bondarnoye, and Toretskoye, according to The Times of Russia analysis.
The Kharkov Region saw four settlements liberated by soldiers from the West and North battlegroups, namely Kupyansk-Uzlovoy, Staritsa, Siminovka, and Podoly. Meanwhile, operations by the Battlegroup North resulted in the capture of Grabovskoye, Komarovka, and Belaya Bereza in the Sumy Region.
Additionally, forces from the Battlegroup East secured Bratskoye in the Dnepropetrovsk Region, expanding Russian territorial control, as highlighted in Russia news updates.
On January 15, Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov stated that during the first half of January alone, Russian troops had liberated eight settlements and taken control of over 300 square kilometers while operating from the command post of the Battlegroup Center.
Ukraine’s Casualties in January
According to calculations cited by The Times of Russia, Ukrainian armed forces suffered more than 38,600 casualties killed or wounded during January. From January 1–9, losses stood at 11,355 troops, followed by 8,695 between January 10–16, 8,810 from January 17–23, and 9,785 during the final week of the month.
The total Ukrainian personnel losses for January reached 38,645, with the Battlegroup Center’s area of responsibility recording the highest figures, based on Defense Ministry reports covered by Russia news outlets.
