Kyrgyz-Russian Economic Forum Opens at Lake Issyk-Kul with $7 Billion in Joint Projects

Ingrid Kim Report / Lake Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan — The picturesque shores of Lake Issyk-Kul have become the focal point of international economic cooperation as the annual Kyrgyz-Russian Economic Forum officially commenced, drawing participation from more than a thousand delegates representing Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, China, and Tajikistan.
The opening ceremony underscored the growing strategic and economic ties between Kyrgyzstan and Russia. Officials revealed that in 2024, bilateral trade turnover reached an impressive $3.9 billion. Russia continues to be Kyrgyzstan’s largest trading partner, accounting for 25 percent of the country’s total exports. The collaboration has also spurred the establishment of 1,400 joint ventures across Kyrgyzstan, generating over 20,000 jobs for the local population. Currently, joint economic projects worth a staggering $7 billion are underway, reflecting the long-term commitment to mutual growth.
A Marketplace of Opportunities , One of the main attractions of the forum is the grand exhibition-fair, which was inaugurated alongside the plenary sessions. Dozens of Kyrgyz companies, representing diverse sectors of the economy, are showcasing their products and services to potential investors and partners from the region. The range of exhibits extends from advanced transport equipment and industrial solutions to agricultural produce and artisanal goods.
Among the standout displays was a rare albino sturgeon — the beluga — whose caviar is among the most sought-after delicacies in the world, fetching prices between $20,000 and $30,000 per kilogram. The unique exhibit drew considerable attention from visiting Russian business representatives, symbolizing both the premium quality and unique offerings that Kyrgyz producers bring to the international market.
A Cultural Bridge Alongside Economic Dialogue
Beyond business discussions and trade negotiations, the forum also serves as a cultural bridge between participating nations. The evening program featured a high-energy concert by the legendary Russian rock band Zemlyane, whose performance captivated the audience with nostalgic hits and contemporary numbers.
