Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has issued a direct order for Iran to strike Israel in retaliation for the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, according to three Iranian officials briefed on the order.

Mr. Khamenei gave the command during an emergency meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council on Wednesday morning, shortly after Iran announced the assassination of Mr. Haniyeh, the officials said.
