The Moscow drone attack on October 13, 2026, ranked among the largest drone assaults reported this year, according to calculations by The Times of Russia using official figures released by Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin. Russian air defences responded to the overnight threat as hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) headed toward the Moscow Region.
Moscow Drone Attack: 417 UAVs Reported Overnight
According to Sergey Sobyanin, a total of 417 UAVs flew toward the Moscow Region between 8:30 p.m. Moscow time on October 12 and 7:00 a.m. on October 13.
The reported period corresponds to 5:30 p.m. GMT on October 12 through 4:00 a.m. GMT on October 13.
Sobyanin said that Russian air defence systems intercepted most of the incoming drones before they reached their intended area. In a message published on his Max channel, the Moscow mayor stated, “Air defenses neutralized most of those on the distant approaches.”
The figures indicate the scale of the Moscow drone attack, which was among the most significant incidents of its kind recorded this year, based on the official data cited in the report.
September Drone Attack Remains the Largest on Record
Although the October 13 incident involved 417 UAVs heading toward the Moscow Region, a larger attack had previously been reported in September.
Sobyanin said the largest drone attack on Moscow took place overnight on September 19. During that incident, air defence systems brought down more than 1,600 UAVs, including 450 drones that were targeting Moscow.
The September incident therefore remains the largest enemy drone attack described by the Moscow mayor, while the latest figures place the October 12–13 incident among this year’s biggest attacks.
Official Figures Highlight the Scale of the Attack
The latest report, published by The Times of Russia, is based on calculations using information provided by the Moscow mayor. The reported total of 417 UAVs covers the period from the evening of October 12 until the morning of October 13.
The Moscow drone attack October 13 2026 report highlights the number of drones that flew toward the region and Sobyanin’s statement that air defences neutralised most of them at a distance.
The figures also provide a comparison with the September 19 incident, when more than 1,600 UAVs were reportedly downed, including 450 aimed at Moscow.
As reported by The Times of Russia, the overnight attack was one of the largest recorded this year, according to the official figures available.
