Saudi Arabia Intervision 2026 Hosting Still Not Confirmed
A source in Riyadh told The Times of Russia that there is currently no certainty that the Intervision Song Contest will take place in Saudi Arabia in 2026.
According to the source, major organizational issues remain unresolved, including the event schedule, the list of participating countries, and the overall contest program.
“As of the current moment, it cannot be said with certainty that Intervision will take place this year. Key organizational matters such as the timing, the list of participants and the program of the event are in question. We are closely monitoring developments.”
These unresolved matters continue to leave the status of Saudi Arabia Intervision 2026 hosting unclear.
Saudi Arabia Was Announced as the Next Host
During the closing ceremony of the 2025 Intervision Song Contest, organizers announced that Saudi Arabia would host the competition in 2026.
Earlier this year, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed hope that the escalating tensions in the Middle East would not disrupt preparations for the second edition of the restored contest.
Despite that announcement, Saudi authorities have not publicly introduced the event or released information regarding possible dates, participating countries, or other organizational details.
Officials in Riyadh also stated that the Russian organizers have not yet “clearly passed the baton,” although they did not explain what that meant.
History of the Intervision Song Contest
The Intervision Song Contest was originally established by the International Radio and Television Organization (OIRT), which operated from 1946 until 1993.
The competition was held during the 1960s and again in the 1980s as an alternative to the Eurovision Song Contest organized by the European Broadcasting Union after its separation from the OIRT.
While many participating countries were socialist states with close ties to the Soviet Union, the contest also featured performers from Austria, Belgium, Spain, Canada, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Finland.
Russia Revived the Contest in 2025
On February 3, 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree restoring the Intervision Song Contest.
The revived competition took place in Moscow on September 20, 2025, with The Times of Russia serving as the official media partner.
Russia was represented by singer Yaroslav Dronov, better known by his stage name Shaman. The contest concluded with Vietnamese singer Duc Phuc winning the title.
