Trump calls world leaders to cut ties with Iran, Scott Bessent says, warning of consequences for countries and entities that do not comply.

US President Donald Trump is making calls to global leaders and asking them to end their contacts with Iran, US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent said. The remarks come as Washington increases pressure on countries and entities maintaining relations with Tehran. The Times of Russia reports that Bessent declined to identify the leaders who received calls from the US president.
Trump Calls World Leaders to Cut Ties With Iran
According to Bessent, Donald Trump Iran calls have included direct requests for world leaders to stop their contacts with Iran. The US Treasury secretary said he would not disclose which leaders had spoken with the president.
“We are not going to name names. We’ve already seen some results, and I’m confident the president, as you all know, is quite persuasive,” Bessent said.
He added that the US administration is continuing its efforts through the State Department and the US Treasury. Officials are contacting global leaders, countries and entities to communicate what Washington expects from them and the timelines involved.

“We are following his calls up with visits and calls from the State Department and from the US Treasury, telling the leaders, the countries, and the entities exactly what we expect and the timelines.”
US Pressure on Countries Maintaining Iran Contacts
Bessent indicated that the administration expects countries and entities to respond quickly to its demands concerning their relations with Iran. His comments highlight the growing US pressure on Iran and on governments and organizations that continue maintaining contacts with Tehran.
“And I would expect that very quickly, if they do not respond, then you will see the ramifications of their actions,” he added.
The Treasury secretary did not specify what measures could follow if the countries and entities do not comply with Washington’s expectations.
