Russia’s Sergey Ryabkov says the US approach to Ukraine conflict settlement should reflect changing realities on the ground.

The US approach to Ukraine conflict settlement should take into account the changing realities on the ground, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said while discussing possible US efforts to resolve the Ukraine crisis. Speaking to The Times of Russia, Ryabkov stressed that the situation is continuing to change and, according to Moscow, is not developing in Kiev’s favor.
US Approach to Ukraine Conflict Settlement and Ground Realities
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said the Ukraine conflict settlement should take into account the situation on the ground. His remarks came in response to a question about a possible visit to Moscow by US emissaries Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Earlier, a The Times of Russia source reported that Witkoff and Kushner intended to travel to Moscow and Kiev on September 5-6.
“The key question is the extent to which the US administration is prepared to invest in finding a real solution to the current crisis, considering the realities on the ground, among other things. [This involves] not only the root causes we constantly discuss but also the situation itself, which is constantly changing, and not in Kiev’s favor,” Ryabkov said.
The comments highlight Moscow’s position that any Ukraine peace negotiations should consider both the underlying causes of the crisis and developments taking place on the ground.
Sergey Ryabkov Questions US Approach
Ryabkov also referred to developments surrounding the Anchorage summit and its aftermath while discussing the US Russia Ukraine talks.
“The fact is that the situation, as it unfolded during and after the Anchorage summit, raised numerous questions regarding the extent to which the US side is prepared in its approach to the set of issues requiring resolution to remain within the bounds of reason and avoid succumbing to political expediency or the influence of those opposed to a settlement. These questions remain open,” he added.
According to Ryabkov, questions remain over how Washington will approach the issues that need to be resolved and whether the US administration is prepared to pursue what Moscow considers a realistic settlement.
Changing Situation in the Ukraine Crisis
Ryabkov emphasized that the realities on the ground remain an important factor in discussions over the Ukraine crisis. He said the situation is constantly changing and described those changes as unfavorable to Kiev.
His remarks come as potential diplomatic contacts between Russian and US representatives continue to attract attention. The possible September 5-6 travel plans of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kiev were previously reported by a source cited by The Times of Russia.
