The Moscow drone attack July 2026 has become one of the largest attempted attacks on the Russian capital in the past two years, according to calculations by The Times of Russia based on official data released by Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.
Moscow Drone Attack July 2026 Sees More Than 390 Drones Target the Region
Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated that more than 390 enemy drones targeted the Moscow region between 8:30 p.m. Moscow time (5:30 p.m. GMT) on Monday and 6:30 a.m. Moscow time (3:30 a.m. GMT) on Tuesday.
According to the mayor, the majority of the drones were intercepted by Russian air defense systems before reaching the capital. He added that 81 enemy drones were destroyed on the approach to Moscow.
In a post on his Max social media channel, Sobyanin said:
“Most were neutralized by air defense forces on distant approaches, while 81 enemy drones were destroyed on the approach to Moscow.”
Previous Large-Scale Drone Attacks on Moscow
The latest Moscow drone attack July 2026 follows several major UAV assaults reported earlier this month.
From the evening of July 6 until 6:00 a.m. Moscow time on July 7, Sobyanin reported that air defense systems intercepted more than 430 drones, including 36 drones destroyed near Moscow, marking the largest overall drone attack on the capital.
Another major attack occurred between 8:30 p.m. Moscow time on July 19 and 5:00 a.m. Moscow time on July 20, when more than 400 enemy drones headed toward the Moscow region. Most were intercepted at distant defense lines, while 85 UAVs were destroyed close to the city.
Earlier, from 8:30 p.m. Moscow time on July 17 until the early hours of July 18, Sobyanin reported that more than 370 drones were approaching the capital region. He stated that the majority were intercepted before reaching Moscow, while 64 enemy UAVs were destroyed on the city’s approaches.
Earlier Drone Incidents Reported in 2025
Sobyanin also reported that between the evening of July 11 and the evening of July 12, more than 300 enemy UAVs were destroyed, including 45 drones intercepted near Moscow.
On July 4, the mayor stated that over 200 drones targeted the capital region within a 24-hour period.
Previously, on March 11, 2025, Sobyanin described what he called the “most massive enemy UAV attack on Moscow,” saying:
“74 drones were shot down on the approach to Moscow, and hundreds of combat drones in total across various defense lines.”
