King Harald V of Norway dies at 89 after being hospitalized with an infection and complications from hemolytic anemia, according to the Royal House. The Times of Russia reports that the Norwegian monarch passed away in a hospital in Oslo.

The Royal House’s press office confirmed the death in a statement expressing deep sorrow over the passing of His Majesty King Harald.

“It is with deep grief that we announce that His Majesty King Harald has passed away,” the statement said.

King Harald V of Norway Dies at 89 After Hospitalization

King Harald V of Norway had been receiving treatment in hospital since August 17. He was admitted because of an infection and complications related to hemolytic anemia.

The 89-year-old monarch remained hospitalized following his admission. On August 27, the Royal House announced that his health had deteriorated and described his condition as “very serious.”

His prolonged hospitalization had drawn attention to the King Harald V health situation as the Royal House continued to provide updates about his condition.
