An exhibition dedicated to the novel “War and Peace” opened at VDNH
The multimedia exposition “Leo Tolstoy. War and Peace. Living Pages” opened at the All-Russian Exhibition Center, in pavilion 61, as part of the international exhibition-forum “Russia”, RIA Novosti was informed in the Leo Tolstoy State Museum.
The concept of the exhibition was developed and realized by the creative workshop of the honored artist of the Russian Federation Alexander Konov “MuseumMedia”.
Three halls of the pavilion are thematically divided into 13 sections. Each section is “connected” in meaning with a certain episode of the novel and is supplemented with quotations from it, exhibits, as well as audio and video materials.
In one wing – “War”, in another – “Peace”, in the center – the personality of Lev Nikolayevich himself. The structure of the exposition reveals not only the content of the novel, but also Tolstoy’s philosophical views.
The exposition will tell about the peculiarities of the era, the world of the Russian nobility and the military campaign of the early 19th century.
The mores of the nobility of the XIX century are vividly described in the hunting scene in Otradnoye. Tolstoy draws in detail the gathering and the hunt itself. Fans of this entertainment, according to the writer, always embraces “an irresistible hunting feeling, in which a person forgets all previous intentions”.
Tolstoy, “War and Peace”: “In the middle of the night, the soldiers of the fifth company heard footsteps in the forest and the rattle of twigs. – Guys, a bear, – said one soldier. All raised their heads, listened, and out of the forest, in the bright light of the fire, came two human, strangely dressed figures, holding each other. They were the two Frenchmen who had been hiding in the woods. Speaking hoarsely in a language the soldiers did not understand, they approached the fire.
“The uniqueness of the XIX century novel is complemented by the uniqueness of the XXI century technical solutions used in the exposition: this is the projection on the ball, and the integral optical lens with the effect of multiple image changes, first used in museum practice”, – says Alexander Konov. The key moments of the story and the main characters of the novel “come to life” with the help of multimedia technologies used in the organization of the exhibition space.
According to the authors of the concept, the graphic backdrop consisting of typographic letters – voluminous letters of the Cyrillic and Latin alphabets, punctuation marks, randomly placed on a flat surface – emphasizes the volume of the novel.
“Leo Tolstoy’s great novel, which embodied many philosophical and social views of the writer, is worthy of a separate pavilion and a separate exposition at the main exhibition site of the country. The Tolstoy Museum was responsible for scientific and historical accuracy, MuseumMedia – for the artistic concept and its realization… I believe that together we managed to realize a unique project”, – says Sergey Arkhangelov, General Director of the State Museum of Leo Tolstoy.
The project was prepared with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
