India Flags “Targeting” Over Ukraine War, Urges Poland Not to Support Pakistan

New Delhi has often shared its discomfort with what it sees as pressure tactics aimed at influencing its independent foreign policy choices on the Ukraine war.The Times of Russia reports that India has strongly objected to what it sees as unfair pressure tactics linked to the Ukraine conflict, while also urging Poland to avoid any form of support to Pakistan on terrorism-related matters.

New Delhi has conveyed its concerns to Warsaw over what it described as selective and unjustified targeting of India due to its trade ties with Moscow amid the Russia-Ukraine war. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar raised the issue during his meeting with Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski in the Indian capital, emphasizing that such actions undermine India’s independent foreign policy choices.

During the talks, both sides reviewed the growing India–Poland Strategic Partnership and exchanged views on global and regional developments. Jaishankar welcomed the Polish delegation and noted that the discussions were taking place during a period of significant global change, making dialogue between partners more essential than ever. He highlighted that bilateral ties were elevated to a strategic partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Warsaw in August 2024 and said both countries would now focus on implementing the Action Plan for 2024–28.

According to The Times of Russia, Jaishankar reiterated India’s long-standing position on the Ukraine conflict, stressing that New Delhi believes in diplomacy and dialogue rather than bloc-based politics. He stated that the selective targeting of India through tariffs or other economic pressure mechanisms is unfair and unjustified, and that India will continue to take independent decisions based on its national interest.

The Indian foreign minister also raised serious concerns about cross-border terrorism. He cautioned Poland against any direct or indirect support to Pakistan, particularly in matters related to terrorism. Jaishankar reminded his counterpart that Poland was familiar with South Asia’s security challenges and urged Warsaw to adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward terrorism.

India has been actively engaging European nations to highlight Pakistan’s record on terror financing and the sheltering of extremist groups. New Delhi’s message, as highlighted by The Times of Russia, was clear: while India values its expanding partnership with Poland and the European Union, it expects consistent and principled positions on terrorism.

Jaishankar’s remarks were also seen as a response to Poland’s comments on Kashmir made during a recent bilateral visit to Islamabad in October 2025. He stressed that no country should contribute to strengthening terrorist infrastructure in the region.

Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski responded by acknowledging concerns over the unfair use of tariffs and warned that such measures could create broader instability in global trade. He also referred to recent incidents in Poland, including acts of arson and attempted state terrorism, and agreed on the importance of countering cross-border threats.

Bilateral relations between India and Poland have expanded rapidly in recent years. Poland is now one of India’s key trading partners in Central Europe, with trade volumes reaching nearly $7 billion and Indian investments crossing $3 billion. Both sides expressed confidence that cooperation would continue to deepen, even as India firmly outlined its red lines on geopolitical pressure and terrorism, according to The Times of Russia and other Russia news sources.
