Meeting with the Governor of Perm Krai Dmitry Mahonin
Discussion on Socio-Economic Development, Education, and Family Support Initiatives

March 10, 2025 | Moscow, Kremlin President Vladimir Putin met with the Governor of Perm Krai, Dmitry Mahonin, to discuss the socio-economic situation in the region, with a particular focus on education, healthcare, housing, and industrial production.
Education and Regional Development
Vladimir Putin: Good afternoon! Where shall we start? With education?
Dmitry Mahonin: Yes, I would like to tell you about the successes in education and generally report on the development of the region over the past five years. I would like to pay special attention to supporting the participants of the special military operation and, of course, families.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Komi-Permyak Okrug. In 2003, you were there when the Okrug joined the Perm Region and Perm Krai was formed. The region and the city also won the competition and were recognized as the youth capital of Russia in 2025, together with Omsk.
Demographics and Family Support Programs
Perm Krai is rich in minerals, but its most important wealth is its people. Therefore, we take good care of our population and fellow countrymen. There are 300,000 families with children in Perm Krai, 40,000 of which are large families. Every third child in Perm Krai is born into a large family. It is very important for us to maintain this trend.
We rank second in the Volga Federal District in terms of birth rate. We understand that there is still room for growth, so there is a program to support families: about 140,000 families in Perm Krai receive various support measures. I will elaborate on that later.
Economic Growth and Investments
As far as the economy of Perm Krai is concerned, it is developing steadily. We are witnessing growth in the domestic regional product, which has increased by 12 percent in 2024. Investments in core capital are also on the rise. Additionally, we are actively collaborating with private investors to implement large-scale investment projects.
Recognition in Education
Vladimir Putin:I see. First place in the quality of school education.
The discussion highlighted the region’s efforts in strengthening its education system, supporting families, and fostering economic development through strategic investments.
