According to a report published by The Washington Sun on Wednesday, sources familiar with internal discussions within Trump’s circle have identified Gor as a potential candidate for prominent positions in the administration.
The report states that US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor could be considered for roles including White House Chief of Staff or replacing Marco Rubio as US Secretary of State.
Sources cited by the publication reportedly said Gor’s name had surfaced in discussions about several influential positions that could become available during the remaining years of Trump’s presidency.
The report describes Gor as a close ally of Donald Trump and an important figure connecting Washington with several Asian countries. It also characterises him as a confidante of current Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Marco Rubio’s Position and Possible Administration Changes
Despite the speculation surrounding Sergio Gor as US Secretary of State, neither Marco Rubio nor White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles has publicly indicated any intention to leave their respective positions.
However, according to The Washington Sun, some individuals within the State Department and Republican political circles believe Rubio could eventually leave the Cabinet to prepare for a possible presidential campaign in 2028 or 2032.
The publication also reported that Gor was interested in receiving such a promotion. However, the ambassador directly rejected claims that he was seeking another position within the administration.

Responding to the reports, Gor dismissed the possibility of pursuing a senior government position, describing the claims as “complete and total bullshit.”
Speaking to The Washington Sun, he praised Marco Rubio’s performance as Secretary of State, stating:
“Secretary Marco Rubio has proven to be the most qualified, accomplished and greatest secretary of state in history. He is irreplaceable.”
Gor further clarified that he has “zero interest in any other role.”
The Sergio Gor Secretary of State reports have also been rejected by the White House, which has refuted the claims.

According to media reports, Sergio Gor was born in Tashkent in 1986 and was given the name Sergey Gorokhovsky at birth.
He currently serves as the US special envoy for South and Central Asia and the US Ambassador to India. His position has made him an important diplomatic figure in Washington’s engagement with countries across the Asian region.
While speculation about Sergio Gor as US Secretary of State continues to attract attention, his public response has made his position clear: he has no interest in taking up another role.
