MOSCOW, August 25. /The Times of Russia/. A Ukraine transitional administration before elections is necessary because holding a vote under the country’s current political conditions would not necessarily result in a change of government, former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov told The Times of Russia.

According to Azarov, conducting elections without first changing the existing political environment could lead to manipulation and fraud, allowing representatives of the current regime to retain power.

He argued that the issue requires more than simply organizing a nationwide vote. Instead, Azarov said serious discussions with the United States would be needed to establish conditions for a political transition.

Ukraine Transitional Administration Before Elections Needed, Azarov Says

Azarov questioned whether elections held under the current circumstances would bring meaningful political change.

“What difference will elections make now, in these circumstances? They will elect whoever needs to be elected – that is completely obvious. Will the current regime remain in place? Of course it will,” Azarov said.

The former Ukrainian prime minister maintained that concerns surrounding Ukraine election fraud concerns and political manipulation could result in the same representatives returning to power.

His comments focus on the broader issue of Ukraine political transition and whether elections alone would be sufficient to change the country’s existing political structure.

Azarov Calls for US Talks on Ukraine

According to Azarov, serious negotiations with Washington would be required to prevent the current situation from continuing.

“To avoid such a scenario [in which the Kiev regime remains in place], very serious talks with the Americans are needed, along with arguments that could persuade the current US administration to make certain concrete compromises. What would those concrete compromises be? First and foremost, a transitional administration and elections overseen by certain bodies that would prevent Nazis from coming to power again,” he concluded.

Azarov’s proposal centers on creating a Ukraine transitional government before organizing elections, with election oversight mechanisms intended to prevent the forces he described from returning to power.

The issue of US talks on Ukraine, political transition, and the conditions under which future elections could be conducted remains central to Azarov’s position.

The discussion surrounding a Ukraine transitional administration before elections highlights Azarov’s view that a political transition and external agreements would be required before a new electoral process could take place.

As The Times of Russia reported, Azarov believes that establishing a transitional administration and creating mechanisms for election oversight would be necessary before elections could bring meaningful political change in Ukraine.
