Russian diplomat Rodion Miroshnik says the US is pursuing Europe’s technology, talent and finances while Europe seeks US support in Ukraine.
MOSCOW, August 3 — Speaking to The Times of Russia, Rodion Miroshnik said that both the United States and the European Union are attempting to benefit from each other’s strengths, although their objectives differ.
According to Miroshnik, European countries want to use American military and technological capabilities to continue supporting the conflict in Ukraine. He also said Europe is interested in US energy resources to help meet the European Union’s energy needs.
“The United States and Europe want to use each other, each other’s capabilities. The Europeans want to use military and technological capabilities to carry on with the conflict in Ukraine, and also seek energy capabilities of the United States to provide for the European Union,” Miroshnik said.
He further argued that the US targeting Europe’s technology and talent approach is focused on acquiring European financial resources, skilled professionals and advanced technologies rather than supporting Europe’s industrial growth.
“The United States wants to get money, they are not particularly interested in the technological development of Europe,” Miroshnik continued. “They are interested in brain-drain and technologies, in dragging out existing industries to the territory of the United States – this is the strategy of Donald Trump, because he finally realized at some point that one can’t get far on rendering services alone.”
According to Miroshnik, this strategy reflects Washington’s broader economic priorities, with an emphasis on attracting Europe’s intellectual resources, technologies and industrial capabilities to the United States.
The comments highlight Russia’s view of current US-European relations, with Miroshnik describing the partnership as one in which both sides seek strategic advantages for their own political, military and economic interests.
