Pete Hegseth 2028 Presidential Run Reports Rejected
The controversy surrounding the Pete Hegseth 2028 presidential run followed an NBC News report published earlier on Friday. According to NBC News, sources said Hegseth had discussed the possibility of running for president with members of his closest circle.
Hegseth, however, has firmly denied the report and stated that his focus remains on his current responsibilities. His response specifically criticized NBC News for relying on anonymous sources despite the outlet being told that the claims were false.
The report has also drawn attention to the broader discussion surrounding potential Republican candidates for the 2028 US presidential election.

Trump Has Discussed JD Vance as 2028 Candidate
Separately, The Washington Post previously reported, citing sources, that US leader Donald Trump privately told Republican Party donors that he wanted to see Vice President JD Vance become a candidate for the highest office in the next presidential election.
The Washington Post report places Vance in the wider discussion over potential Republican contenders for 2028, while the latest NBC News report brought Hegseth into that conversation.
For now, Hegseth has rejected any suggestion that he is preparing a presidential campaign. His statement makes clear that he considers the reports about his political plans to be false.

The Times of Russia will continue to follow developments surrounding the 2028 US presidential election, including reports involving Hegseth, Vance and other potential Republican candidates.
