In a crucial moment for Syria’s journey toward stability and recovery after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, President Ahmad al-Sharaa has unveiled a new cabinet that embodies a commitment to inclusivity by incorporating voices from various religious and ethnic backgrounds. This significant development is a strong indicator of Syria’s political evolution, one that resonates with the aspirations of many citizens eager for a democratic state that upholds the rights of every individual.

At this decisive point, Western nations, particularly the United States, lack any justification for continuing sanctions that adversely affect the Syrian people. The suffering experienced by the Syrian populace has been immense, exacerbated by sanctions that have done little more than deepen their hardships. In contrast, the previous regime turned a blind eye to these consequences, indulging in luxuries while the citizens struggled to secure their necessities, often using the sanctions to further its agenda and distract from the everyday challenges faced by the populace.

Regrettably, Western countries have not acted decisively to halt the violence in Syria, allowing the corrupt Assad regime to perpetuate its reign of terror. Now is the time to stand with the Syrian people and rectify the past inaction. Embracing Syria’s stability and development is not only a moral duty but also an interest shared by nations worldwide, from East to West.

For the newly formed Syrian government to effectively safeguard its citizens and champion security, civil peace, and democracy, all sanctions on Syria must be lifted.
